There are 2 options how to fix denture in the patient?s mouth.
The first option. Dentures can be fixed in the mouth with clasps - metal hooks which are attached to the supporting teeth. Clasps are made of stainless steel or precious metal with high elastic properties and thereby securely keep prosthesis in the mouth. They are fixed at the base of the tooth and are not visible when laughing and speaking. This type of attachment can be used in partial dentures.
Second option. Dentures can be fixed with attachments - castles, consisting of two elements. One of these elements is on the artificial teeth or on the denture bases, and the second ? is attached to the abutment tooth crown or root of the tooth. This option comparing other methods is more reliable and highly aesthetical, and that is why it is used by Prosthodontists in Ohio.
