Modern market is full with different toothpastes that can confuse us while choosing. If you chose toothpaste for your children, find out whether it contains fluoride and does it taste good. Some toothpastes have a special mark that informs you about this toothpaste have been approved by the American Dental Association. Such products are more effective and safe.

The amount of tooth paste is also important. For children small pea-size amount will be enough. Explain your baby that toothpaste and food are not the same; it doesn’t need to be swallowed.

To choose a proper toothbrush especially for children is of great importance because it is easy to damage their soft tissues. So the best chose for children are toothbrushes with soft nylon bristles. If your kids will use harder bristles it can lead to wearing gums away over time. Pay attention on toothbrush’s size. It should fit in child’s mouth easily brushing at a time 1-2 teeth. The toothbrush is to reach all the teeth and the molars as well.

As soon as your toothbrush looks frayed and worn, it needs removal. Try to change worn toothbrush into new every four months. Also very important to change toothbrush if you or your child have experienced flue, cold or any other illness in order to avoid case of reinfection.

Children as usual like to use powered toothbrushes because they are fun, but at the same time they remove more stain and plaque than standard ones. But actually both regular toothbrush and powers one are effective enough.

Mouthwashes and fluoride mouth rinses

Fluoride mouth rinse and mouthwash are not the same things. The main purpose of mouthwash is to make your breath fresh but not to clean. Mouthwashes are not recommended for children younger than 6 years old because most of them contain alcohol and young children are tend to swallow the product. If your child experiences bad breath condition, consult your dentist, he or she can have some health problems.


Fluoride mouth rinse serves to cover your teeth with fluoride protecting them from cavities. But before starting to use it, consult your dentist whether your kid need it. As usual it is used once or two times a day.
